"Tell her that I miss our little talks."

This always happens with my blogs (minus my tumblr apparently). Things get busy, life moves on, and this gets left behind. I feel like I outgrow them, like each one is a record of different parts of my life. Xanga was my coming out, high school, and endings of childhood. This was very much early adulthood and if I remember correctly, it was also here through a time of incredible pain and change.

Some things in my life are so different it feels like some of those horrible things never happened. Some things are still so similar it feels like I haven't moved forward at all.

It remains that leaving school was the best thing I ever did. It should have happened sooner but to sound extremely cliche, I think it happened exactly when it was supposed to.

Recently, I have been confronted with truths of people from my past. I did a lot of damage at Elizabethtown and one of the people that received the bulk of it contacted me a couple of weeks ago. She apologized for her part in what had happened to me around the time of my hospitalization. We talked out how each of us felt, said our apologies, and slipped back into conversation like nothing had happened.

Talking to her made me realize how far I've come. I'm certainly not whole and healed. I'm not happy and shiny all the time. I may never be that person, but I don't ever give myself enough credit for all I have done, especially this last year. Outwardly, it would appear my life has completely derailed. I live at home, in a basement no less. I don't have a real full time job and I spend an obscene amount of time playing The Sims. I'm still without a degree with only 6 months to complete.

That said, all of that was necessary for me to get to where I am right now. I haven't been this close to being who I am, who I was, since before I left for college. The people in my life are here in spite of a lot of upheaval and obstacles. Of course, they were all the last people in the world I thought would still be here and that makes them even more important.

I've worked really hard to stop pushing them away, to accept their help, and embrace our bonds. Some times I still fail, but mostly I think I've improved greatly.

It is important to note that while leaning more on my friends and myself, I have required a lot less attention from romantic relationships. In fact, no attention. My relationships, my feelings for the girls in my life, were often a product of insecurity and skewed behavioral patterns. From closeted girls to girls with boyfriends to the emotionally crippled to people who had no interest in me at all. One after another, yearly.

Then after the last one, the most closeted girl yet, I decided it was time to actually take a break. I say that after each of my 'relationships' end but with everything else happening I meant it and as it turns out held up to it.

Until the other night. She was the one flirty friend I wasn't supposed to fall for. Her and I live between the lines, shameless flirting that is never addressed or acknowledged. I told myself long ago as our friendship grew that she was not an option, so I buried it. I never thought in depth about much I cared about her about how much we fit and about all those things that were unsaid.

Then, the other night, it hit me. Be it in an attempt to push her away or my need to be destructively honest, I told her. I laid it all out and was more than a little rude about it. I think people do that. It's easier to fight and run then deal with what you're actually feeling and the possibility of rejection.

But, here's the thing. She wanted some part of me too. She won't leave him and I never once thought that she would, but it was there.

This proved to me several things.

First, that no matter how hard you try and change who you are you will never succeed. I thought I could be that person who doesn't love love, who doesn't get beyond vulnerable when feelings are involved. I thought I didn't need it and if I ignored it would go away. It never works and I should stop putting effort into trying. Love and feelings for others have shaped my life. Being that way is part of who I am. That will never change.

Second, that my romantic feelings for people don't have to come from a place of destruction and mental illness. It can come from a true appreciation of the other person and a closeness to another person without me being insane. Yes, this has been messy, but ultimately as I sit here writing this, I'm okay. I'm not falling apart, I'm not destroying relationships around me because of it. That is a huge step for me and it proves that I'm getting closer. Closer to whatever the hell it is I've always been looking for in that department.

It doesn't have to be the end of the world is my point. It doesn't have to be my priority. Being with her would be an honor and intense and wonderfully real. However, I'm okay regardless. I'm glass-half-full girl about it. Maybe we'll stay friends, maybe we won't. We can't unring the bell and I've decided I don't want to. The feelings I let myself realize are just the truth. I would have done a lot more damage keeping it to myself.

I have my friends, I have my crazy family, and I have this crazy hope. It has been coming back slowly over the last year. I still struggle with it regularly but it is there. The hope that maybe I will be okay. I don't have to be scary and broken. I can be different and I do have some power and choice over brain chemicals and skewed behavioral patterns. That is my biggest success after everything.

Being confronted about my past recently, I found out yesterday that I was right about the last girl I had feelings for in that last part of my life. She had dated a former friend of mine. I'm sure she wasn't my friend anymore and the girl more than once said she had no feelings for me despite certain actions to the contrary, but it stung. The idea of her being her first girl kiss made me want to cry. I cared about that girl so much. I wanted her and I to work so badly. There was no way it could have of course and I'm not sure I would have changed any of my actions. People move on. People make choices. You aren't enough or a right fit most of the time, but you can't change it so you have to let it go. You don't need to say anymore, especially to that person, you just need to leave it alone.

This is also a tremendous step for me.

Now, remember how certain things have stayed the same to the point of feeling I have made no progress at all? Besides my new found feelings for the flirty friend I was never supposed to fall for, there are things that still weigh me down and usually count against me in life.

I exhaust myself trying to be positive in life. Think positive, be positive. Blah, blah, blah. It's good and useful but for the most part I will never be that person. There is a fine line between pessimism and realism and I still straddle that line daily.

My family is a big part of that as it has always been. I can't change them, but as the saying goes I can change how I deal with it. Boundaries are essential and that whole positive view thing really works. They are who they are, the good and the bad and I work constantly on seeing situations with them in terms of the good. There is a lot of love around me. A lot of support and passion and intelligence. We are all more similar than we should be and instead of using that as a con I try every day to use it to my advantage.

The biggest thing that still remains is my need to give them everything. My time, my energy, my life. I am my mother and I spend my life being stepped on by them at times to the point where I forget about myself and my needs. That sounds heroic and selfless when it really is just masochistic and irrational. They have their own lives and I need to stop being afraid of my limitations and letting go of that bond a little and remember that I need to do things on my own. I need a life and not to be just a sidenote in someone else's.

I'm working on it. I'm going back to school and taking my time to slowly add things to my life to challenge my limitations. I need to remember I am capable and intelligent and worthy. We as people struggle with ourselves and the first step to being a more together, confident person is realizing this.

I'll always be a lot of work. Too much has happened and certain things are beyond ingrained in me, but I have to continue to embrace some parts and move past others (even in the downswings). I have  to maintain a life for myself, so that requires a little more understanding and a little more letting go.

Life is way too short and is shitty most of the time, but that's how it goes. Learn to enjoy your shit.

I'm about to watch this gay, gay movie.

Elena Undone. The one woman looks kind of like my perfect woman (THE NOSE). I think she plays the straight one who falls for the lesbian.... I think I may actually explode.

Troian Bellisario and Shay Mitchell

I don't care about Pretty Little Liars. But, I care about these two's attractiveness.

People really shouldn't be allowed to be that attractive.

You know what I want?

To stop thinking about her. (No, not you. Her.)... And, it baffles me, you see. Intellectually I understand why she does what she does, but emotionally? I can't bring myself to let it go. I just want to make her see. Stop her from heading down this road, the road she is already so far down. I see so much of myself in her.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I am seeing things incorrectly. Projecting as I do, perhaps? I am, after all, just a crazy person living in her parents' basement.

Still though, I can't shake it and I am not a person who operates without the 'why'. Ever since she wandered back into my life before I left school, she got me invested in her situation again. In HER. She, of course, then walked away when she got what she needed or I needed something back. Empty words just as it always was.

I guess I just need time to forget it again. You'd figure two plus years would have been long enough.*shrugs* I'm sure that day will come.

After all...

I mean, really, who needs that disaster of a friendship anyway? Nothing but bad there, no sirree.

"Don't try to tell me inaction is not a crime."

Today I have officially hit the wall.

You see with my depression comes phases. There are certain things that happen in a certain order that indicate what part of the downswing I am in. Right now, I am apathetic, completely uncaring about what happens to me. This happens a couple of times during any given downswing. The only difference is this is where I can take one of two paths: the destructive behaviors path or the long, difficult right path.

As usual, it can be directly related to a girl. With this one, I have walked away. I have stood up for something with the little bit of dignity I have left. The problem? I always go back.

With her, I may be grasping at straws, but at least she's there a little bit. At least when I think of something we talked about I can text her. We can talk about her day or whatever it is she is rambling about and I can not feel so alone. I can lie to myself for a second and pretend I am more to her than she has ever said I am.

That's all I want. Someone to care. To mean something to someone.

But, see. That's where the destructive comes in. I feel that way and worthless and I miss her, so instead of being strong and fighting the depression and loneliness I text her. I fix it. I do the work because I know she won't. And there we are back at square one.

I want her in my life. I can't deny it. But, it has to be something she does. Something she makes happen.

It has to be otherwise it is just me taking the destructive path, me putting myself in a situation that will never change. A situation I have tried to change more than once.

I don't believe it is black and white. I think people can change. I think work is necessary, but I guess it shouldn't be that complicated, that difficult.

So, I guess I just have to stay strong unless she changes something.

...if only other things in my life were that simple. Grasping at straws: theme of my life all around.

Okay, look.

Just give me a sign. Be the human to prove me wrong. Just this one time.

We can do this. We can be that.

Please?

I need to rant about something dorky.

I'm sitting here on tumblr (shocking, I know), going through my Naomily tag and, well, I'm annoyed.

I have always said that they are so real it makes me ache, but this summer I have decided that that is not necessarily a good thing.

They are realistic. Sexual confusion, true feelings masked by bad choices and hurtful behaviors. All things I know too well. And, you know what: It is stupid. All summer it has been my pet peeve. People defending the ones they are in "love" with, saying the horrible things they do are alright because the other person has been hurt or lied to so much in the past.

WHO HASN'T BEEN?! WELCOME TO LIFE.

I look at that confession cap above and I want to scream. Happily ever after? NO. Naomi, like so many others in the real world, is emotionally crippled and likely will always be. Emily is a pushover and will likely remain one. They continue to partake in destructive behavioral patterns. (Oh, and ps, aren't they like 16? It is almost impossible to meet the person you will spend most of your life with that young. Don't be stupid. How will you ever change or evolve if you remain with one person forever?)

We all watch them and think, "God, that has happened to me." or "I know someone like Naomi."

Life is hard, but it doesn't need to be that hard. Over the last year or so I have learned that the hard way. You can change how you behave no matter how hurt you have been or how much people have hurt you. I've been left, lied to, betrayed, etc. etc. And, still I give my all. Especially with those I have romantic feelings for. I don't cheat or lie or intentionally hurt the people I care about. That's just stupid and childish. Grow up.

Love isn't just something you feel. It is something you do. Love isn't real, in my opinion, if it isn't filled with people being the best they are or working their hardest to get there everyday. And, if one or both of the parties aren't improving or changing negative behaviors, cut them loose. End it. It may hurt, but you will both be better people in the end for it.

So, in conclusion, don't be Naomily and do bad things to other humans in the name of love or make excuses for others' behaviors.

Basically, don't be an asshole. Just be honest and true and treat the people you care about how all humans deserve to be treated. Stand up for yourself and be the best person you can be.

'Kay? 'Kay.

end rant.

(P.S.  I will still watch Naomily make out because that lake scene was fantastic... I am shallow for girl-on-girl action.)

I don't know if it is their chemistry, Anna Silk, whoever plays Erica, or Bon Iver strumming in the background but MY GOD. Sexy.

I love finding attractive women.

While flipping through channels, that stupid Vampire Sucks movie was on. I started watching it because, well, the above girl appeared. The actress' name is Jenn Proske. She hasn't really done anything, but look at those freckles!

Here's the thing.

I think ignoring me would have been better than your crappy, formal apology that showed me that you still cling to all that shit that makes you miserable. COOL. It also showed me that you cared even less than I thought you did. You couldn't show any emotion at all? Really? Maybe that is your way, formal and cold.

I guess it just proves this was best for everybody. I mean, at least you finally had the balls to say it, right?

Either way, if/when I forgive you I don't think I will be giving you the satisfaction of knowing it. I have learned telling people you forgive them just gives them an excuse to do the same things over and over again. Make no mistake, you messed up. You treated me poorly. I won't say that differently so it is easier for you to chew on. People don't remember things said to them politely... And, well, speaking of learning things, I am SO glad you learned so much from treating me badly. Cool, dude, cool. I wish you and him loads of fat grandchildren. 'Cause, lord knows, it will never be her. Lord knows, you will never be honest about your intentions or actions or, god forbid, your feelings. I guess I was right when I foresaw this relationship being all about you.

Prove me wrong. Go ahead. Show me.

Done being petty now... But, really, I am sick of being the bigger person. Not this time. I have done the right thing over and over and it has gotten me nowhere.  Eff it. She'll never know the difference anyway.

I think this bugs me even more because everyone in this house is miserable and broken. My whole family is this sucking void of gloom and doom. Mean, bitter, and miserable. It is near impossible to be happy here. So add a ridiculous girl and, yes, AKT is not in a place to be acting like the bigger person.

Is this all people can be? Miserable and flawed? Really? I am doing so great and trying so hard not to let people create the problems they always do for me. I am seeing a future and working towards it. I have purpose and am finally at peace with who I am and what it means to be me.

And, yet. BAM. Girls and sucking void family members. I understand life is hard. I understand people are shitty. Believe me, I have gotten that memo time and time again. But, all over? I am running out of people to cut out of my life. I am running out of ways to fight the seemingly inevitable misery.

True loneliness here I come. I mean, for real. I am going to build a house, garden and read constantly, live off Disability, rock in a rocking chair, and play with a dog I will name Florence. Life can be that simple, I truly believe. People can be happy and do the right and, damn it, I will find it.

Just not here or on the repressed campus of Elizabethtown College.

This is my future dog, Florence (called Flor or Flo). She will be the only girl I need in my life.

I am going about my day now, attempting to not be angry and sullen. Nobody is worth losing the things I have worked so hard for over this past year. No one.

Ado.

What is the matter with people?

I was just cleaning out my messages on Facebook, attempting to condense the clutter and BAM. This old message from this kid. I get he thought he was protecting her. I get he thought he was doing the right thing. But, messaging a complete stranger and telling her that she shouldn't put her problems onto his "friend"? HIS FRIEND?! He knows nothing about her. She can't even tell those people who she is. He doesn't know anything about me! What gave him the right?

It makes me angry because I let this go. She didn't answer, I added her to the proverbial list, and then it was done. Keep my head up and move on. It took some effort, but I did it because she forced me to. She did all of this (and I'm sure she'll love the credit because she loves thinking she is this awful person).

Also, I WAS SO HAPPY AND GOOD BEFORE SHE CAME ALONG. I had my shit so together. I was putting my problems on her? They were problems she exasperated! I am always one to admit when I am wrong, when I did something, but in this case I don't think I did. What could I have done differently with her? I wasn't trying to change her, I just wanted her to be who I knew she was and wasn't strong enough to be. At least in certain aspects.

Any information I had wrong about the people in her life came from her. If it was skewed, it was skewed because of her.

*deep breath*

I am going to calm down and let this go again, but I did not deserve this. I did not deserve to have this brought up because she keeps everyone at arms length and only gives the skewed information she wants to.

It is my fault I let her in despite my better judgement, but who knew it would extend to every dysfunctional person in her life? Not cool, not okay.

Wow. Just a wow moment... Over it now. Going back to watching Goodfellas. Godspeed.

"And that's the hardest part. Today everything is different; there's no action... have to wait around like everyone else."

"Here's what I find about compromise: don't do it if it hurts inside."

Last night after creeping on a former 'her,' I was filled with this overwhelming need to rant about the state of relationships and how I feel about being with other humans. I texted my friend. These are my parts of the conversation:

"See. ________'s status. Proof I will be alone forever and like it. People are ridiculous. The things they put up with. I don't think I will ever be understood or agree with most things others do. I will stand alone. And I get closer and closer to that everyday.... Maybe it is just that old thing where everyone lies or compromises things I just won't. I think the sacrifice has to be me being alone. Everything has a cost. I am not sad or anything just wondering what it will mean for my life.... I just honestly don't see it anymore. The someone. You know how sometimes I just know things? [I] have ever since I was little. And having a her was just something I saw. But it is gone. I don't believe any of it anymore. It isn't what I want. If the rest of the world is an example. No bueno. End rant haha."

I mean all of it, wholeheartedly. I am not sad or looking. In fact, I long to be alone. I am happier this way. Other people let you down and disappoint. I almost never let myself down or disappoint myself. I keep finding and trying to connect with girl after girl and nothing is different. Maybe it is me, maybe them, maybe both. But, either way it isn't worth it.

I may live alone with a cat, but you know what? I will do it without compromising things that I believe should be in a relationship. I think there are basic things all humans need for happiness and love to work.

Maybe I am right, maybe I am wrong. Maybe the truth is different for everyone. Maybe I stand alone on all my views of life, love, and happiness. But, that is really okay. Alone is right where I need to be. At least for awhile.

Ideas are always better than any reality. So, I will stick with my ideals of what life can be because what I dream of is far better than any reality with another person I have had. Maybe that will change, but I won't hold my breath.

As Augusten Burroughs said in A Wolf at the Table, "Where there is nothing, absolutely anything is possible."
